Jazmin Alvarez decided to use her penchant for rustic design in order to save abandoned animals from enforced euthanasia.
She runs a small non-governmental organisation, ‘Rescaes’ (Rescued with Special Needs) as a shelter for abandoned dogs in Itapuami Luque, on the very outskirts of capital Asuncion. She also turned discarded materials into handmade wheelchairs for disable dogs and cats.
“For the small dogs and cats, what we do is use a type of PVC pipe and all types of recyclables, wheels, carts, skateboards, everything that is light and can be reused” She said.
She has already made over a hundred animal wheelchairs for dogs, cats and was once even requested to make one for a pet pig.
