It makes me sick when humans treat dogs like they are a piece of trash. I’ve read and written countless stories about dogs being left in community parks, open fields, side streets, and even sewage holes. Selfish humans like this know no bounds when it comes to dropping off a pet– and the excuses are aplenty. Plain and simple, if you can’t take care of a dog, don’t get one.
This poor dog, since named Marvella, was found abandoned in a local park with the words, “free to good home” written all over her white fur with a permanent black marker.
The Ross County Humane Society of Ohio took the dog in and processed her so she could be adopted. The shelter manager, Brittany May, took to Facebook to share her outrage of the selfish act, and the story went viral!
Just days after Marvella was rescued from abandonment, the story went viral and donations came pouring in. She was quickly adopted by a loving family.
Social media can be a weird place, but it can also be a place to spread a story like a wildfire. In this case, the social sharing of Marvella’s story got her a new forever home. It also spread the message that abandoning your dog is unacceptable.
If you can’t take care of your pet any longer, no matter what the reason, at least have the decency to find her a new home. And no, that does not mean by writing, “free to good home” on her fur. Take the time to be a responsible human being and find an actual loving family who can pick up your slack.
